Self Portrait at Sunrise

Self portrait taken beneath the newly constructed Ninth Street bridge crossing the Tuolumne River in Modesto, CA on Friday morning, October 7th, 2005 just before sunrise. As a child, I used to fish in the spot right behind me. My grandmother used to cross over the old bridge as a young woman as she walked to work at the Stanislaus Foods Cannery (it was near the water tower seen at the left of the bridge at the horizon). My father used to cross it every day as a young man, working as a laborer for the Modesto Empire and Traction short line railroad, which ran just to the right of the bridge.
