Acclaimed cellist Matt Haimovitz during his show, "From Bach to Hendrix and Beyond," in the "Fat Classics" performance at the Fat Cat Lounge on 11th Street in Modesto on January 12, 2006. Surrounding him are art samples from the "Cellobration" exhibit in which local artists decorated donated cellos to be auctioned in a fundraiser for the Modesto Symphony Orchestra.

This portrait of Raine Tadevich, a classmate in a jazz dance class at Modesto Junior College, was taken 30 years ago, in January 1976. Tech info: image taken on Kodak Tri-X 400 ASA film, camera a Canon FTb with a 50mm lens on a tripod, 1/4 second at f.1.4. Kodak D-76 development. Illumination was natural light through a small window in the dance studio, light dropped off to blackness.

Raine Tadevich GD

This is a version of Raine Tadevich tweaked with the KPT 3 Gradient Designer Photoshop software plug-in in the "layers bin" mode (note: this is an undocumented feature in the software). The image uses the contours of Raine's body as a topographical map (by way of Photoshop's "magic wand" selection), combined with "Difference" blending mode for a nearly Sabatier effect.

Raine Dance

In 1993 I colorized the b&w portrait of Raine Tadevich and in 1996 as a beta tester for the Bryce 2.0 3-D software, I wrapped her portrait onto a cone "primative" and experimented with the multi-replicate feature, reproducing the cone with a twirl as they recede into the background and through a boolean carved cyclinder.
